There are many people who would like to make money online easily, so there are many people who sell make money online opportunities. One of such opportunities lately are video game tester jobs. In this article I’ll look into making money online with video game tester jobs.
Yes, you can make money online testing video games, but it’s not as easy as the people who make money selling eBooks and services that help you get such jobs, make it sound.
For example, GamingJobsOnline.com, says that you can easily make over $49,000 a year, having fun playing video games online.
They say that you can easily make quick money online or even make a full time income playing games. All you need to do is to subscribe to their services, and then they will help you make money as the tester.
All you need to do, is to sign up for their services, choose a job, play, and make money. It sounds very easy, but unfortunately it does not work like that. It’s not easy to get well paid jobs, especially for the newbies, and the amounts of money they say, you’ll make, are highly exaggerated.
To be honest, the good thing about GamingJobsOnline.com, is that you can test it for 7 days for $1 only. So, you can see for yourself if it really works for you. They say that most of their members make money in less than 24 hours, so 1 week is certainly enough to see if the subscription is worth the money.
If you’re happy with their service, then you can continue for $27 a month.
Is It Really a Glamorous Job?
The problem is that they offer you good money and a fun job. Neither of which is true. The money is not worth the time in my opinion, and there are much better ways of making money online than testing video games.
It’s hard to get good video game testing jobs, and those who get them are usually get paid the lowest wages in the whole gaming industry.
It’s true that in some places, you can sometimes get into a paid focus group, that will pay you about $150 per hour, but such opportunities do not often come and they aren’t easy to get.
Another myth is that it’s a fun job. That you can just enjoy playing games and you’ll get paid. It’s not fun at all. You must play one, same game again and again, till it gets very boring. And it requires a lot of attention to catch any problems with the game.
You can check the requirements on one of the most popular sites that offers such jobs – Activision.
Here are some of the qualities you must have to be able to do the job:
- You must be able to critically analyze a game, to see what makes a game good or bad, and why. You must also be able to describe and communicate what you observed.
- To be a great tester you must have very good memory. You must remember the specific situation, when something went wrong, and be able to recreate how it came to that.
- You must be able to accurately describe what happened in a few sentences that will be easily understood by the people who will read it. It means you must be also a good writer.
- You must know your hardware, whether a console or PC, very well. You must have good technical knowledge about your gaming tools.
- You must not only be passionate about playing games, but also be very dedicated to it, so you’ll be able to do the same repetitive work for many hours.
Actually the top companies hire game testers to work on-site, not online. Such testers must be qualified and they are observed during their work, so they can be certain about the qualifications.
You can see that it isn’t as simple, easy and glamorous as it sounds on many websites. On the other hand, you might be lucky, and it’s a shortcut to do it through GamingJobsOnline.com. $1 per week is worth the money to test it and see for yourself how it works. So, if you really think it might be your dream job, why not go for it?
How to Really Find Video Game Testing Jobs?
There are also other ways of finding such jobs. You might search yourself to find game tester jobs online for free in Google. You might check the earlier mentioned Activision, and other companies like Electronic Arts that always need some testers.
The gaming industry is huge, so huge money is involved. The gaming companies are always for lookout for testers and people for other jobs in the gaming industry.
They usually prefer people with College or University degrees, who they sometimes hire straight from schools, but anybody talented enough can find a job in the gaming industry.
The purpose of this article isn’t to discourage you from finding a game testing job online, but to show you the reality of such jobs. It’s not an easy and quick money opportunity online.
Nowadays, it’s hard to find any quick and easy opportunities to make money online. There are definitely many ways of making money online, but they require time and dedication. If you’re really interested in making a lot of money online, then keep on reading.
Are Better Ways of Making Money Online Than Testing Video Games?
I make money online from affiliate marketing, which I am convinced is the easiest and the best way of making money online. The best and the easiest, does not mean it’s a make money quick opportunity.
To make money online with affiliate marketing requires time and dedication. You must first educate yourself about online and affiliate marketing, and then work to build your own online business.
I wrote it’s the best and easiest way, because you don’t need your own product to make money with affiliate marketing. You don’t need a degree, to rent and office or any other place. You don’t need money to invest.
All you need is a computer and the internet connection, and to know how to do it. And the money you can make is much, much bigger than the money you can make testing video games online.
Most of the people who fail with the affiliate marketing, fail because they lack the step-by-step mentorship and the community who will show them how to do it. I used to have the same problem, till I found Wealthy Affiliate.
Wealthy Affiliate is the online community of affiliate marketers, where you can find all the education and tools to start affiliate marketing as a newbie, and go all the way to becoming an experienced and profitable affiliate marketer.
The best news is that you can start it for free. You really don’t need any money to sign up, and you can continue for free as long as you want to. There are of course many benefits of becoming the paid, premium member, but it’s possible to start and continue for free.

Video game testing is very akin to say, personal training; it’s a job that most think is a fun, flawless job, but at the end of the day, when one is working for good pay, it’s work. There’s no getting around it. When it comes to video games, I’ve always said if one’s going to have a good time with them, they’d have to pay to get in. Video game testing is a job, just like any other job. I personally would like it because I’m into critically analyzing things like story structure, plot holes, glitches, and things of that nature. For instance, if I’m reading even a textbook or bestseller, I’m the guy who can spot a typo. I can spot even a minor plot error in movies or TV series. Not just that, I’m not a gamer, but I would probably find some enjoyment in testing the game.
Thank you for the very accurate comment Todd!
looks like you spent a lot of time reviewing these tester jobs online. I guess the old adage about if it sounds too good to be true it must be applies here. As you say you can’t make money but there’s no real big money involved. Very few and far between to the jobs pay when she say they will pay. I like the fact that you laid it all out for everyone to review so that if you’re thinking about doing something like this you gave them a dose of reality.
I have to say that the Wealthy Affiliate program that you mention is very likely the best in the industry. I am a member of WA so I support your recommendation that in order to make money online you have to fundamentally set up your business much like you would a brick and mortar business. Only then, knowing, understanding and applying the basics can you hope to make real lasting income online.
Great comment Tim! Thank you!
